When the war in Ukraine started I, like many of us was in complete shock. But right away I understood that I couldn’t be away from it. I didn’t want to go just to shoot, I knew that there are many great photographers in Ukraine, who will do excellent job. I had to help in other way. Together with my friend we raised money to buy and bring  safety wests for our friends in Ukraine. And so we did. As well as we were helping people to evacuate, we were buying and bringing medicine, ammunition etc… It was important in the beginning of the war. It was quite chaotic back then. When we entered Ukraine in March 2022, I thought I enter a movie about WWII. Long empty roads surrounded with dirty fields with snow, everything in brown-white colors.  Often you could see fortifications made out of sand bags. Inside, soldiers with rifles are warming themselves by an old potbelly stove or a barrel of fire.  In Lviv bags covering the windows of the basements, people walking strictly on business, there were no people just strolling the streets. No alcohol were allowed: I saw a drunk man once and he was taken by the police. The tension was really high. There are heaps of people at the station, tents with food, barrels of fire and a lot of lost people. People who jumped out of their seats without having time to figure out what to wear or what to take with them.  Then I came several more times and already started to get to the funeral or to the liberated places, which were always places of tragedy and people's stories that horrified me.  I call on everyone who can and how can help in this war.  I believe that this is a fight against evil.  Exactly like black and white.  I would really like Ukraine to come out of this battle a winner in every sense.
